Airborne Division

what does the “new” 101st airborne division do?
i heard it is no longer parachute infantry but air assault…. what is the difference and what does the typical infantryman do in the 101st compared to the 82nd?
What you have heard, although belatedly, the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) relies on the helicopter to take them into combat (in most cases). There are still a number of positions that retain their “Jump status” such as the Long Range Surveillance Unit, which is a Division asset. They are the “eyes and ears” of the Division Commander. Of course this is how it was 14 years ago when I retired from the Army.
Once on the ground, regardless of Airborne, or Air Assault, the job is the same. Find, fix and finish the enemy.
