How to get all Americans insured!?
Everybody’s got their own story about this country’s medical insurance disaster making them crazy, so I won’t bore you with mine. But it doesn’t have to be this way: other countries offer excellent basic health care without bankrupting themselves. It’s mostly a question of getting the politicians to be creative and stand up to the vested interests. How’s this for an idea:
A state by state referendum to permanently revoke medical coverage for state elected officials and their dependents. Make it a condition of holding office. They can only get insured after they’ve come up with a program to offer basic coverage to everyone in their state. And that’s the program that they will personally be covered by. Could this work?
No, it will never work. So the state elected officials won’t have health insurance for their families at all until the state institutes socialized medicine? I don’t see how it could possibly work.
