Extreme Cold

Extreme Cold
Would you wear a duster jacket for warmth in extreme cold?

I know this is a sport section, but this involves winter/cold weather and this section seemed closest to help.
One of my friends is heading to alaska later this year. He has bought himself a fur-lined duster that he is planning to use as his winter coat. I think he is going to need something warmer. Am I wrong?
To elaborate, we live in southern Texas, and the fur lined duster might work.

I have a wool liner for my oilskin duster and that is not very warm in 25-35 degree weather here in the Northeast. A fur lined one might be better, but I think it would still not be enough for the dead of winter in Alaska. If it was me I’d have a synthetic filled parka with a Gore-Tex or similar waterproof fabric shell….and a hood.
