Maneuvers Armor

Maneuvers Armor
What actor said this in what film?

Guess the film and actor, and tell how it is currently pertinent:

Nearby, the Tibetan army practises maneuvers. Some of the soldiers wear ancient mesh armor. They bring muskets and spears as artillery. The spectacle of a peace-loving nation … vainly attempting to create a military.

The fears of war on my friends’ faces strike a deeply buried personal chord.

Echoes of the aggressions of my own country…the will to overpower a weaker peoples
brings shame to me.
I shudder to recall how once long ago, I embraced the same beliefs;
How at one time I was in fact, no different from these intolerant Chinese.

The Tibetans say an enemy is the greatest teacher because only an enemy can help develop patience and compassion.
They believe w/ rock-like fairth that the power of their religion will protect them against these Chinese.
The Samurai as I remember was set inJapan not Tibet/China…….any more guesses?

Was it from the movie “The Samurai”? and was the actor Tom Cruise? Even if not, the quote is very relevant because the 49 year oppression of Tibetans turned violent over the weekend. If I could afford to purchase them, I would cancel my tickets to the Beijing Olympics this summer in protest, and try, though its so hard, (due to trading policies) not to buy anything made in China, until they lessen the oppression and allow some degree of self-autonomy to these people.
