Medal Badge

Medal Badge
Why do GI’s wear the Infantrymans Badge?

First of all, I mean no disrespect for people wearing the Infantryman’s Badge.

However, on TV I’ve seen Army commentators wearing the Infantry Badge. While in the Army in and after Viet Nam, I always respected the CIB, but wearing an Infantryman’s Badge seems like wearing the Army Commendation Medal (thanks for being here).

To be cynical, when I see an infrantryman wearing an Infantryman’s Badge, it seem similar to a REMF (If you have to ask…) wearing a Bronze Star without the “V” for valor. Like former Governor of California Gray Davis, an office worker.

Please understand that I don’t question their committment or bravery. Also, p[leas don’t flame me for asking this question. Perhaps the rules have changed, or the military rules require one to wear all military decorations that one is entitle to. I don’t know….

Seems like everyone’s wearing the CIB now. Given away like an AAM. I can recall and old 1SG or mine trying to get his EIB before he retired. Of course he was over 40 and didn’t have an over 40 physical. 3/4 of the way through the EIB he went and got his physical. He finished the EIB with that dreaded forced road march with a heavy ruck. Pretty good for an old 1SG. I know the EIB is different that the CIB. But you really earn the EIB. You don’t get it for showing up. Seems like they give awards and rank away like candy nowadays.
