Navy Officer

I am thinking of becoming a Navy Officer. I am a woman, and I was wondering about suggestions or warnings?
I’ll be getting my BA soon, in English and maybe a double in communications. Do you have any suggestions for career path? Is it harder (lonelier perhaps?) being a lady officer for women, or should I go enlisted?
Definitely go officer. My suggestion to you would be to get in touch with a local officer programs recruiter (your local Navy recruiter should be helpful). He/She can guide you and walk you through this lengthy process. It takes time and lots of determination… there is a lot of stuff that you can start knocking out of the way NOW, as preferred to waiting until after your graduation.
Definitely start getting in shape because you still have to pass a Physical Readiness Test. You have to stay a qualifying exam and submit an application package to the officer community you want in order to get accepted into OCS (Officer’s Candidate School).
I’ve heard that the enlisted may respect you more if you start out enlisted and work your way up, but that sounds silly to me. “Work smarter, not harder”– although getting into an officer community will definitely be a challenge. You earn respect through your dealings with other people, not by your service record.
I say go for it! Congrats and thanks for wanting to serve!
