Navy Submarine

Navy Submarine
What does it take to be an officer on a Navy Submarine?

Well if i get into NROTC, my first choice would be to work on a sub an earn my gold dolphins. so what does it take to work on a sub.

First, you must pass OCS or the Academy, with a good GPA, especially in sciences. Then you must qualify for Nuclear Power School – All US submarine officers are Nucs. Then, you must *pass* NNPS – one of the toughest technical training schools in the nation – When I went through NNPS, enlisted side was rated seventh toughest technical school in the nation, whilst officer side was rated third-toughest behind MIT and CAL Tech. THEN, after that, you must pass through prototype training, where you demonstrate the *ability* to put your knowledge to practical hands-on use. Then, after all that you must qualify your Dolphins on board a real submarine – Fail your Dolphin quals, and all you go to the surface fleet, even after all the above.

I don’t know if the Nav is sending officers to sub school these days or not – it’s been a while.
