how long do you have to serve the russian Army?

my friend is russian living in a foreign country
im just wondring because he is turing 18 soon and i would like to know how long does he have to serve ..and i dont want to ask him this question

The Russian army is poorly trained, has poor leadership, is poorly supplied, poorly paid and in no shape to do much of anything. Abuse of new recruits is epidemic.
