Jacket Coat

Can anyone recommend a good waterproof jacket / long coat?
I’m female and out in all weathers. My “waterproof” jacket is no longer waterproof across the shoulders and arms
I need something that is not going to make me feel hot and bothered and will keep the weather out, preferably with a hood. I thought if I went for a long coat it would help give more cover without the need for waterproof trousers. I’m not too worried about how fashionable it is … needs to be practical and I can’t afford to spend too much on it. Thanks.
Call into Millets and see what’s going on special offer. They have Peter Storm, Karrimor, Berghaus, all sorts.
It chucks it down round here so most of us have a few coats and waterproof jackets.
You need a breathable one to stay feeling OK in it.
A long and fairly light one that fits loosely over a thick windproof fleece is a good way to stay warm and comfortable without that bunged up in a coat feeling.
They fold small and when it’s not raining they’re easy enough to carry but a big thick coat is just there all the time…no let-up.
You can get breathable waterproof trousers as well that don’t feel all clammy inside.
They’re good in a cold wind too. It makes a big difference having warm bits all the way down.
These days it’s pretty good for outdoor clothing.
I walk in the hills a lot and spend hours fishing on the boat or off the rocks (when we can get to them in the howling wind and sea spray) and a waterproof jacket and trousers with good warm hiking socks and boots keeps me fine.
Even the boots are light and comfortable now, not the heavy clodhoppers they used to be.
I go mountain running in hiking boots in bad weather. A lot better than trainers and my feet stay warm and dry. Trainers get used for dry days.
While you’re in Millets pick up a few boots and see how light they are.
Different branches can vary in what’s on offer so if you’re shopping in another town it’s worth calling in to see what their Millets has.
Here’s a similar Q…same stuff.
Note the North Face comment on mine. It used to be good stuff. Now the schoolkids are lapping it up so the firm caters more for that now.
Some people still want the stuff just because of the name but you can do better with other brands.

Have fun. OK, British weather….try anyway, haha
