Why didn’t the Army just use the same camouflage patterns as the USMC?

Personally I like Multicam and the German Flecktarn pattern. But the Marines woodland and desert digital pattern is (in my mind) better than the Army’s current ACU.

So why didn’t the Army go with similar patterns as the Marines? Two uniforms for desert and woodland/jungle?

Actually, from a camo perspective, the ACUs are better.

The ACUs don’t have black in them. Anytime black is used in a camo pattern, it becomes easily to pick up during movement. The patterns the Marines use have black in them.
