Was The Purple Heart medal made from gold after 1945?
I Found my grandfathers purple heart from world war 2 he has 2 of them. Why would he have 2 of them? Are the purple hearts made of gold?
***Keep in mind he was given 2 for the same injury***
The Purple Heart Medal was never made out of gold.
A second or subsequent award is usually indicated by an oak leaf cluster worn on the original medal.
