German Navy
Who was the head of the German Navy in WW1?

I just heard that I am slightly related to the top admiral on the german side in WW1, he was the head of the whole german navy, but I don’t know his name. I would like to know his name so that I can research about him.

There are some persons who might be the one you are looking for.

1.) Großadmiral Alfred von Tirpitz
2.) Admiral Eduard von Capelle (successor of #1)
3.) Admiral Paul Behnke (successor of #2)
4.) Admiral Ernest Mann Edler von Tiechler (successor of #3)

Those where the secretaries of the navy.
There were also high commanders of the high sea fleet.

1.) Admiral Hugo von Pohl
2.) Admiral Henning von Holtzendorff (successor of #1)
3.) Admiral Rheinhard Scheer (successor of #2)

Tirpitz and Scheer were so popular that in the 1930′s two battleships were named after them.

Oh, by the way, Alfred von Schliefen (see answer #2) was no admiral. He was the general who came up with the German strategy for WW I.
