Can you join a different states Coast Guard?
I live in Oregon but I want to join Washingtons Coast Guard. Oregon doesnt offer any of the reserve programs I am interested in, but Washington does, and I could easily drive there. Do I have to be a resident of Washington, or no?
I truly am only interested in the Coast Guard Reserves, but Oregons unit does not offer any of the programs I am interested in, but Washingtons unit DOES. Do I have to be a resident of Washington to join that units reserve, or not?
Marinna, the Coast Guard is a nation-wide federal armed force. Yes, we have different units, but they all work together to get the job done.
You need to speak to your local recruiter to find out if the units in Washington have any slots available. If they do, then, as long as you live within 50 miles (or get special permission), then you can enlist.
No, you won’t have to be a resident of the State of Washington.
