Leaving for Navy Recruit Training Command in January what to expect that you don’t think about right off hand? I’ve been in DEP for 4 months and leave Jan 21 2010. I know about the physical and mental training as far as what the internet says can you please give me some things that maybe it doesn’t tell me that aren’t as obvious. The Navy’s homepage says that basic training is 75% classroom learning and 25% physical…that doesn’t seem right…also when do you get to request where you would like to be stationed on your first duty station? thanks for any other helpful things also.

Expect it to be really, really cold. I’m leaving Feb 4th so maybe I’ll see you there shipmate

To expand on my answer: Some of the things that some people from my DEP pool who are at bootcamp now are saying is 11 general orders and rank and recognition is a big thing. Also you want to know military bearing and facings (attention, left face, dress right dress, etc). They also recommended having as many people send you letters as you can, you don’t realize how much the letters help until you are there. The 75% classroom 25% physical is pretty accurate as far as I ‘ve heard, as long as you stay out of trouble. If you or your division get into trouble alot, you will do alot extra PT. Other than that, bootcamp is what you make of it. If you have a good attitude it will make it go all the more easier.
